John Mclaughlin Alternate Picking Guitar Exercise

Repeat the scale pattern and “Accent” the first note of each new group as you cross the guitar strings.

This will give you very clean guitar picking [on electric or acoustic] as you alternate “Down up” with the picking hand. Enjoy!

This idea was taken from John Mclaughlin’s “Shakti” playing. His alternate picking is strict, rhythmic and accented. Although this is a brief exercise there is lots of brilliant plectrum concepts/technique embedded within it.
