Messiaen has written a book detailing his compositional method and modes of limited transposition. It’s a really excellent insight into his methods, ideas and developments as a composer. Messiaen’s compositional style is very inspiring for any musician, composer and improviser as it is stacked with original possibilities and new ways of looking at and approaching tonality.
