Bebop Dorian, Major and Melodic Minor scales

Bebop scales contain an extra chromatic passing note creating an 8 note scale.

Why is this?

In the example below you will see how the added chromatic passing note makes the scale rhythmically logical.

1 3 5 7th notes of the chord [C E G B flat] are all “On” the beat whereas the “non chord tones” D F A B natural are played “Off” the beat.

If you are a composer, guitarist, pianist, sax player or have any artistic and teaching inclinations then trying out being a youtuber can be a great experience. But, as I state in the video, you need to learn youtubing as you go along. It is really learnt in “Practice” as theory will be irrelevant because of the ever changing nature of the internet and youtube.

I hope that this video was of help to anyone who is considering starting a youtube channel.

Be Bop “DOMINANT” Jazz Scale for improvisation

The “Dominant” bebop scale is the Mixolydian mode with the major 7th added to create an 8 note scale that [to quote David Baker] “Comes out right rhythmically”.

In this case it is the C “Mixolydian” mode with the B natural [Major 7th] chromatic passing tone. This makes an 8 note scale. So we have the C major scale with the flattened seventh and the major 7th.
