This Mclaughlin guitar lick substitutes Dm7b5 for Dm7 and G13b9 for G7. This ii V I cadence resolves to C69.

In the previous example we employed the F melodic minor scale but this time we will exploit the A Harmonic minor scale.

Notice that both scales contain the the G# Ab enharmonically the same note and the E natural.
