This first short ii V7 I is built on 4 note groupings called tetrachords. These employ scale fragments and arpeggios:
Example 1: Short ii V7 I example
The next example is a longer ii V7 I and again employs tetrachords. The first bar employs pentatonic movement whilst the second bar resolves 4-3 and employs arpeggios and scale fragments.

Moving on from my last post on the Dorian Mode, I now look at how the Lydian Mode actually sounds.
Here’s how to transpose it to C as the parent key.
If F is a perfect 4th up from C:
Then what is C a perfect 4th up from: This would be G.
So we have a G Major scale starting on the note C:
You will hear straight away that the C Lydian has a Sharpened 4th and this is what gives it its distinctive flavour.
Chord ii is now Major,
Chord II now resolves nicely into chord Vb,
Another beautiful sound is the sharpened 4th which now becomes F#m7b5

Example 1-Minor Topic. In this line we move via D Dorian and D melodic minor. Interest is created by employing some colourful chromaticism that also gives continuity to the line. These long fluid lines employ a double timed 16ths feel with an upbeat that creates/anticipates forward movement.
Example 2-This is an outside sounding line that exploits chromaticism with E whole tone and A altered scales.
Example 3-In this line we can see Pat Martinio’s unique use of Arpeggios, Intervals and Scales.
Example 4- In this last example we delve into another one of Pat’s long fluid 16th jazz lines. This time there are two bars played over a static C7 chord. In this line we find, Mixolydian, Lydian Dominant, triad inversions, dyad/ 3rds and chromatic resolution.
