This Mclaughlin guitar lick substitutes Dm7b5 for Dm7 and G13b9 for G7. This ii V I cadence resolves to C69.
In the previous example we employed the F melodic minor scale but this time we will exploit the A Harmonic minor scale.
Notice that both scales contain the the G# Ab enharmonically the same note and the E natural.

The first part employs F Melodic Minor over a Dm7b5 chord [Substituted for Dm7]
The last part employs G13b9 for the Dominant Chord and employs a partial G diminished scale to 4 notes of resolving semitones;
This cadences to CMaj7:
